Winter Checklist for Homeowners


Homeowners in California should start getting their homes ready for the winter season. Inman.com released a checklist that will ensure safety and comfort throughout the holiday season.

Although smoke detectors usually alert owners when they need new batteries, it is important to check the batteries and make sure they are working properly. Older homes should have enough detectors, including one in each sleeping room and one located on each level of the house, according to the source. Homeowners with appliances fueled by propane or natural gas should also install a carbon monoxide detector, since homes are more closed up throughout the winter months.

The source also suggests that homeowners have a complete system check of heating systems. This should be done annually, and can be done using an owner's manual or by hiring a trained technician who can perform the services needed. Thermostats should also be checked or upgraded as needed to conserve energy.

The exteriors of homes also need seasonal maintenance, says the source, including trimming trees and clearing gutters. Sprinkler systems should be drained in colder areas and outdoor faucets should be turned off to avoid freezing over.

Pam Anderson lists Malibu beach home

Pamela Anderson listed her Malibu beach home on VRBO.com (thank you Real Estalker!)  Not for the faint of heart or the light of wallet, this 3 br/2.5 ba is being rented at the rate of 20,000 a week!  On the VRBO listing Pam herself says, "'Of course, pets are allowed to bring their owners…as long as they're house trained!'"  So it looks like PETA's spokes-girl is sticking to her guns, even in her real estate practices.  So, if you have some dogs and you need somewhere to stay for the holidays and you have an extra 20k sitting around, this is the perfect match!

Now Casting: Essentially the Real Housewives of Malibu

Ah, finally-a casting call for something analogous to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for Malibu!  David Katz, who auditioned "Real Housewives" in Malibu this spring, has made the same casting call--must not have worked out.  So, if you're in Malibu's "elite" and have absolutely no problem with your family's privacy being invaded, then by all means, audition for this!
