Fourth of July Fireworks

Fourth of July is just around the corner and we want to keep you in the know on where the fireworks are going to be at. 

Private fireworks shows will be launched from:
  • 9:00 pm - launch from barge offshore of Malibu Colony
  • 9:00 pm - launch from barge offshore of 21500 block of PCH
  • 9:00 pm - launch from barge offshore of 22300 block of PCH
  • 9:00 pm - launch from barge offshore of 27900 block of PCH

Monday Link Stuff!

Hello everyone, I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend!

I thought this was a pretty neat article Mercury news put up today called "Real Estate: How to sell your home in a down market."  Basically it gives you some very valuable, though not entirely obscure, tips on how to sell your home that basically boil down to: price appropriately (always armed with local market statistics), stage stage stage (like, seriously, take down any clown paintings you may or may not own), photograph and network the bejeezus out of it, be flexible with buyers, and don't succumb to the reluctant allure of renting so quickly!

Malibu Lagoon Restoration Project

A big issue in Malibu lately has been the cleaning of the Malibu Lagoon.  The Malibu Lagoon Restoration project was scheduled to begin this June but has been since delayed.  The lagoon has been dubbed extremely polluted and as a result the Coastal Commission together approved a plan in October 2010 to drain and clean the western lagoon.  While many environmental groups do support the Restoration Project, others question what may happen to the flora and fauna that manage to survive in the lagoon presently if it is cleaned.

The jury is still out.

In this article in Elle Decor, Courteney Cox opens up her Malibu home, getting into the nitty-gritty of every minor design detail--down to the mixing of paint to create the perfect color for the tennis court.  That kind of neurotic precise exactitude screams Monica Gellar to me, maybe Friends wasn't entirely fictional.  I've yet to find out where this Malibu home is located, I'm guessing it's somewhere with a private beach because she complains that her last house was on a public beach littered with paparazzi.  In any case, her exactitude has resulted in the completion of a stunning home--she must have a good eye for this kind of thing.

The photo of the week is Rhamnus californica or the California coffeeberry!  It is native to Malibu, and other parts of Southern California.  This plant leads an interesting life, in terms of color: it goes from being red, to purple, and at the end of its life the berries turn black.  It is recommended by the California Native Plant Society for landscaping in Malibu- so keep it in mind!

News highlights

This week instead of telling you all the goings on in random localities, I'm going to keep it relevant to us and tell you a celebrity real estate deal in good ol' Malibu.

The Real Estalker tells us that David Charvet of Baywatch fame is putting his secluded Serra Retreat home in Malibu for sale.  At the exorbitant price of $12,500,000, this isn't for your everyday buyer.  There is also a lease option at $75,000 month, also not for the faint of heart or wallet.  It has 6,769 square feet, 5 bedrooms, and 4.5 bathrooms, and most importantly, a 4,000 bottle wine cellar for the lush in all of us.
